What do I need to know about nfts, digital files and blockchain?

What is an NFT?

An NFT (a non-fungible token) is a digital record representing any physical or intangible item: an artwork, a video clip, an in-game skin or asset, a music file, a real estate property (tokenized), or in our case, collectibles. A non-fungible token only exists in one copy and can’t be replaced with a token of the same value, hence the name. They can provide the owner of the native digital assets with proof of ownership, which can live outside of a centralized repository. NFTs are “minted” on a blockchain.

We will facilitate minting of, and transfer to the auction winner of, the Zuckerberg baseball card NFT/digital asset through one of the world’s leading and most reliable marketplaces. Keep an eye out, more details to follow.

What is the blockchain, and why does it matter?

A blockchain is a distributed database or ledger that is shared among the nodes of a computer network. As a database, blockchain stores information electronically, usually digitally. Blockchains are best known for their crucial role in cryptocurrency systems like Bitcoin. They help maintain a secure and decentralized record of transactions and exchanged information. Blockchain guarantees proof of ownership and security with a history of data while generating trust through transparency, thus negating the need for any third party.

Why digital collectibles?

The unprecedented relationship between crypto and collectibles alleviates many of the concerns that members of the collectibles community share.

As time goes on, the scarcity of premium pieces has driven up auction prices. Most people become discouraged by the cost of acquiring something that seemed more easily obtainable in the past.

Additionally, while authentication services continue to become more accessible to physical collectors, experts find it increasingly difficult to tell real works from fakes. Especially in the fine art world, experts could previously distinguish authentic pieces by assessing standard practices such as the touch of paper. Unfortunately, rapid technological advancements have made it even harder, compromising the trust and authenticity of the entire market.

Do I need a digital wallet to bid in the auction?

You aren’t required to connect a Digital Wallet to bid in the auction, but if you win, you will need one to pay afterward, and you will need sufficient funds in ETH. We can assist the winner with a complete step-by-step guide if necessary.

Why Ethereum?

Ethereum has a large and committed global community and the largest ecosystem in blockchain and cryptocurrency, supporting a wide range of functions. Besides being used as a digital currency, Ethereum can also process other financial transactions, execute smart contracts and store data for third-party applications.
